The draft is over, and GM Dalfan made more trades in the second day than he did in the first! The Colorado Avalanche made great strides by trading barely roster players, for great young gems in the 2012 draft. With a small shipment and a large return, the Colorado Avalanche could be looked back as one of the big winners of the 2012 draft.
Mikhail Grigorenko
Colorado Avalanche's first pick of the 2012 draft was used to select star power russian, Mikhail Grigorenko. This highly touted young player was drafted 4th overall. He played for the Russian U18 team in 2010, and put up 18 points in only 7 games. On a line that included both him and Nail Yakupov, you can only imagine they blew the competition away. This year he put up 60 points in 60 games.
Grigorenko: "I'm pleased with the outcome of the draft, and once I was picked I felt a lot better. Putting on the Jersey was a dream come true. I'm going to go to training camp and put everything I have on the table. Either way I'm going to be playing there eventually."
Ryan Smyth
Yes! He's back! After a terrible 2008 season, he's back again to drive this team to greatness. The Avs gave up defenseman Kyle Cumiskey in exchange for the veteran winger, but they are feeling good about the move.
Colorado Avalanche GM: "Ryan Smyth is a fine veteran than can still put up solid numbers. We are looking forward to having him on the Avalanche again."
Ryan Smyth opted not to comment on the matter.
Anders Lindback
A centerpiece of the big playoff push this season, a huge variable in the standings. Lindback has yet to have a starting role in the NHL, and the Avalanche have taken the risk of acquiring him. Rated better than previous goaltender Michael Nuevirth, but that could all change this season.
Lindback: I'm really excited about having the starting role. This is something I've waited a long time for, and I only wish the season would start sooner.
With only Free Agency and pre-season remaining, the Avalanche could be in the thick of the playoff battle before they know it.
