Well after the 1st Season, and Draft and heading into a 2nd Season in DHL, I think it's time for V2 of everyone's favorite GM Rankings....
Rankings will be based on:
#1 Activity within DHL
#2 Strategical moves made GM (Trades/Signings etc.)
#3 Team and Player performance
Here we go....Don't take anything personal, this is just for fun and only one person's opinion...
(Previous Ranking is in brackets)
#30(NA)
Cannot give an opinion at this time.
#29(NA)
Cannot give an opinion at this time.
#28(NA) Looks like a solid GM with potential, but I wasn't a fan of his trade to move Malkin. Hejduk is good but fairly old and he didn't acquire enough IMO to downgrade from Malkin to Kane.
#27(NA) Made a nice deal to haul in Parise and Pitkanen with his pick, but negated it all and more by trading in my opinion a player he should have built around in Eberle. Brodin and Morin are nice pieces but are not close to the gamebreaking talent Eberle is.
#26(22) I liked his Malkin trade but the few trades before that were questionable. Made an awesome deal to bring in Yandle then negated it with a mind boggling trade to bring in Mika Zibanejad who cannot find his offensive groove at all. He had a potential franchise defenseman in Yandle and now his defense is comprised of 6 guys who, besides John Moore would probably have a hard time finding a starting job elsewhere. Crosby and Malkin alone are not enough to carry a team that really doesn't have that much outside of them.
#25(NA) Not much to judge him on yet, but made a decent move to bring in an elite scorer in Kovalchuk. I probably would have held on to Seguin and Schenn but it wasn't a bad move.
#24(20) Wasn't able to participate in the draft after dealing what turned out to be the 8th Overall pick early in the season. Still in the middle of a rebuild and it was partly stalled after missing out on adding a big time player.
#23(23) Nothing significant since the last time. Team has a lot of older players on it. Not sure if it's a team that can compete for the cup so it might be a good idea to bring in some young guys. Picked up a 1st for a retiring St.Louis which was pretty good.
#22(21) Acquired his future goalie in Mason but paid a very steep price in Yandle. Overall, has done a good job continuing the rebuild in Phoenix and acquired the face of his franchise by drafting Lilja.
#21(27) Improved from the last time. Acquired an elite prospect in Ryan Murray and some other good young pieces to continue his rebuild. Roster is packed with solid young players and should be a team on the rise in the coming seasons.
#20(12) A drop here for Aaron as the Wings GM hasn't done anything in the offseason to improve a team that are still for the time being a cup contender.
#19(26) A jump here for the veteran Beau. I wasn't a big fan of his Kane trade, but ended up with arguably one of the best drafts coming in with 4 1st Rounders and grabbing a steal with almost every pick. Team should be improved next season with the added depth.
#18(25) The trade fanatic Colton makes a nice jump here as he has made some solid offseason deals to improve his team. Wasn't a big fan of the Rinne downgrade, but moved some expendable players and picked up some nice upgrades for his club and should be a team in the playoff hunt in the West next year.
#17(24) A big jump for the Habs here as they made some big changes in the offseason to a team with very little star power. Tough loss in Subban, but they drafted Labbe, brought in 2 star players in Vanek and Briere and some solid trades for depth dmen. Did lose Price though and we'll see if they can get it done with average goaltending.
#16(17) Small upgrade here. A team with a plethora of draft picks, he could have done so much more in the draft like move up in the 1st round with his 9 2nd Rounders. Still has a very good team heading into next season but it could have turned out even better. Had a horrible 1st season and they need to make the playoffs this year with the team they have on paper.
#15(14) Small drop here. Acquired a nice young player in Grigorenko, and Fowler on D but still lacks depth on D and we'll see if Lindback is the answer. With the likely improvement with his young players getting better, is probably hovering in that 9-11 spot in the West.
#14(11) Small drop here for the Sharks. Dealt Thornton for some nice young pieces but wasn't able to get involved in the draft and missed out on the playoffs to a team that had a much worse roster on paper. Disappointing 1st Season for the Sharks and they will need a better start in Season 2 to avoid the situation they were in for Season 1.
Rest to come later...
