1 - : 6-1-1
A team that not many had high expectations for have blown through the month of October. Their best forward is David Legwand. They have a balanced attack, but their strength lies from the blue line and back. Led by Shea Weber, Ryan Suter and Pekka Rinne, the Preds are proving why they could be a dark horse.
2 - : 6-2-1
While their record is not as close to perfect as other teams, their explosive offense can not be overlooked. Four players have over a PPG, and Nicklas Backstrom and Jeff Skinner have developed an innate chemistry that could be dangerous for the rest of the league.
3 - : 6-1-1
The heavy favorites coming into the season have proved the hype. Despite not having any players in the top 20 in scoring, the Caps have boasted an extremely balanced attack, but with 7 legitimate top four defensemen, the Caps have frustrated their opponents.
4 - 6-1-0
Andrei Kostitsyn is finally proving the hype. Exploding out of the gate for 5 goals and 6 assists in 8 games, Kostitsyn is leading the charge on a team that no one expected to make noise.
5 - : 5-0-1
The only team in the league to have not lost a regulation game yet, the Canes special teams has been the story so far. The Canes have been getting much secondary scoring from their second and third lines, but if they wish to contend, Zach Parise will need more than just 2 points in 6 games.
6 - : 6-1-0
The Rangers have stifled their opponents to an under 2 GAA in 7 games. Without much high end scoring talent behind Marian Gaborik, the Rags will have to rely on stellar play from their defense and Henrik Lundqvist to continue the pace.
7 - : 5-1-4
The Kings just cant finish games in the shootout. If they could bury these games, they could be putting distance between them and the rest of the league, but for now, they'll need to develop that killer instinct to put the game away sooner than the shootout.
8 - 5-2-0
The Jets' special teams have been on fire, and that is exactly what you wouldnt expect from a team without a star studded line up. They'll need to pick up the even strength play and not rely on the PP as their crutch if they wish to continue pace.
9 - 6-3-0
A team with not much change from last season is expecting to contend for the Cup with the same line up. Someone forgot to tell their GM that the rest of the league is getting better. This is a team you would expect to be higher than #9.
10 - 6-3-0
Led by the little guy, Brian Gionta, the Canadiens have been a resilient team that finds themselves right where you would expect. The Habs should be an exciting playoff team that could make noise if Price gets hot.
