Dallas, Texas - With the season nearing the half way point and Dallas sitting dead last in the league you would think that there is little to smile about in the city of Dallas. However there have been some bright spots for the team on the ice.
Patrick Hornqvist - Since coming over from, Hornqvist has been very effective for the Stars. In 21 games with the Stars, Hornqvist has managed to put up a respectable 16 points. His 20 points also put him 1 behind current leader Valtteri Filpula, despite having played 12 less games. This current pace would also put the Swede at 64 points had he played all 82 games.
The 4th Line - Not often do you really hear about a 4th line getting attention, but that is exactly what is happening in Dallas right now. The combo of Nystrom - Wandell - Chaisson has been fantastic for the Stars. On a team where most of your players are in the minuses, the Stars 4th line has managed to combine for a very respectable 10 goals, and an impressive +16. Despite being last in the league, the 4th line always goes out and plays hard, and its something coaches, teammates and fans love to see.
Not 1, but 2 top picks - The true bright spot for the Stars, the Stars currently hold what would be not only the 1st overall pick, but also potentially the 2nd overall picks in this seasons draft. It has been reported that the team has received a lot of offers for those 2 picks, but have chosen to hold onto it, in hopes they can potentially walk away with a "Stamkos" and "Doughty" to help in the teams rebuild. A thought that not only puts a smile on the fans faces, but you have to think John Tavares could be excited about the prospects of having two very skilled players joining the team as soon as next season.
While the present does look bleak in Dallas, the future looks bright past this season, and hopefully this season the Stars give us a few things to smile about
