Halfway through the season, the Avalanche are struggling. It has been an up and down road for them, with streaks of wins and losses. The Avalanche have played a total of 36 games, the most games played of any team in the league. Star centerman Paul Stastny was traded away, along with top defenseman Erik Johnson, and wingers Kevin Porter, Peter Mueller, David Jones, and young forward TJ Galiardi. The avalanche Also obtained top defenseman Trevor Daley, and Jonas Holøs has really turned around for the team. They make up the Avalanche's top defenseman line, and hold the top #1 and #2 spots for points by a defenseman. As for the top line the Avs have Travis Zajac playing Left Wing, obtained in a trade for Stastny, Matt Duchene in Center, and Milan Hejduk at Right Wing. All putting up star player numbers. Building around players like Matt Duchene and Landeskog, and with players like Gabriel Landeskog, Tyler Biggs, Evgeni Kuznetsov, Ryan O'Reilly, Brad Marchand and Michal Neuvirth developing, there's no doubt about the Avalanche future in the league. Trevor Daley came to the Avalanche in exchange for Evgeny Artyukhin. While Artyukhin had been a prized free agent, he would get 4th line minutes at best. Starting on the top defensive line with fan favorite Jonas Holøs they have been putting up unimaginable numbers. With those two defenseman feeding up to Duchene, they have become the leagues two top scoring defenseman. Putting up a combined total of 47 points. They frontier the Power Play and Penalty Kill as well remarkablyas well. Both Trevor Daley and Jonas Holøs wear #6. I wonder... Gabriel Landeskog has generated interest from all kinds of sources in the league. Landeskog is already built like an NHL power forward and with the type of game he has brought, he provided a huge boost to the Avalanche lineup right away. With a top six that includes Duchene, Marchand, Milan Hejduk, and Zajac, there’s room to crack the lineup and be a force.

With a final record of 26-46-10 and 62 points, fans are not happy. The Colorado Avalanche have yet again failed to make the playoffs. The Avalanche had a solid roster, but simply didn't perform. In response to this, GM Dalfan has made some serious changes. Dalfan: What we had simply wasn't working. I had to make some serious changes to get the team feeling good again, and I feel I've done that. I moved several key players for picks, while still maintaining a great roster. Reporter: You moved long time Colorado Avalanche player Milan Hejduk, the fans we're not very happy about that. Dalfan: Hejduk is a great player, but he had little place on our roster. We would only move him if we could get good value, and that's exactly what we got. Columbus is not a cup contender, and his pick is well worth saying goodbye to our friend Milan. Reporter: You also moved two defenseman, Kyle Cumiskey and Jonathon Ericsson, tell us a bit about that. Dalfan: Kyle Cumiskey wasn't performing on our squad. We tried several different things, but he still looked out of place on the ice. Smyth can fill a top LW role until some players develop, and can be a great team captain as well. Jonathon Ericsson on the other hand was playing spectacularly, but Lindback is a great young goalie and can fit into Nuevirth's role much better. Reporter: You Selected Russian player Mikhail Grigorenko with your 1st round pick, will he be making the roster this season? Dalfan: We're going to wait and see what happens at camp, but we're looking forward to seeing what he can do. Reporter: There was several last minute deals with Boston to get some 2nd round picks, what are your plans there? Dalfan: We are operating below the salary floor. Players like Jordan Schroeder and Evgeni Kuznetsov didn't have much of a shot at our roster. But Reggie Smyth, Evzen Albrecht, Danny Ehrdhart, and Darcy Ashley all have amazing hockey sense and can be top 6 players down the road. With several great prospects added through this years draft, and a solid goalie. The Colorado Avalanche finally look to contend this year.

Colorado Avalanche Free agency Press Conference [/size] With the Avalanche Season underway, Colorado GM has decided to hold a press conference to go over some of the signings he made in Free agency, and some trades as well. In the Offseason, the Avalanche made several great strides via Free agency and Trades. Here are the signings made by the Avalanche. Off-season In/out In: Ruslan Fedotenko RW 33 1100000 0 41 73 71 71 73 74 75 75 70 75 57 65 75 71 74 73 Antti Miettinen LW 32 2333333 0 35 74 75 75 72 72 74 75 84 73 66 55 75 74 72 74Paul Martin D 31 5000000 4 18 60 74 65 76 78 70 78 77 78 48 65 70 66 74 73 Dainius Zubrus C 34 3400000 2 32 74 74 73 74 74 75 74 72 65 79 65 77 73 74 75Out: 4th round pick Pierre-Marc Bouchard C 28 4080000 2 24 74 81 72 70 71 57 72 67 80 73 57 67 75 66 73The Avalanche have obviously gained from this free agency, and results are showing in the Season. The Avalanche are in a improved spot of 21st, but are only 3 points away from qualifying for the playoffs. After a brutal beginning of the season, the Avalanche bounce back. The stars of the Avalanche team are alike to last year, with Duchene leading the pack and Daley following close behind. Matt Duchene 7 Goals 5 Assists 12 Points Trevor Daley 3 Goals 7 Assists 10 points Michael Ryder 3 Goals 6 Assists 9 Points Marchand 8 points Zubrus 7 points Miettinen 6 points Fowler 6 points Smyth 6 points If the acquisitions from free agency and the draft hadn’t been made, the Avs could be sitting up to 19 points less right now. And lots of games could have been lost.
